NO DANCE, NO REVOLUTION: An international lineup of queer DJs will play for more than 10 hours to party and raise funds for three organizations directly involved in aiding Chilean society’s most vulnerable in the current food crisis:

1. The Secretaria Mujeres Inmigrantes, which aids immigrant women.

Make no mistake: Chile is in the midst of a democratic revolution. For six months before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Chile was witnessing the largest wave of demonstrations against inequality since the fall of the Pinochet dictatorship.

The 2019/20 revolution had won some serious victories: a national referendum on writing a new Constitution with gender parity in the chosen mechanism to draft.

Now, the pandemic is being politicized. The national referendum has been pushed back and a nationwide lockdown imposed with curfew enforced at gunpoint. The poorest are hardest hit, with people forced to make desperate choices: stay indoors or feed themselves and their families.

But people are fighting back. Against the backdrop of minimal state help and the threat of hunger, people are protesting and restarting the “ollas comunes” — community makeshift kitchen initiatives last seen during Pinochet’s regime, where everyone chips in to make a “stone soup” to survive.

It is under these conditions and the banner of international queer and feminist solidarity that we have decided to act (and to help make that soup)!
